Lyle Spencer Briggs was born in Archer, Idaho January 31,1936 to Leah Margaret Hansen and Raymond George Briggs. He passed away at EIRMC in Idaho Falls on Tuesday October 4, 2011. Lyle graduated from Madison High School in Rexburg and received his mechanical engineering degree Cal Poly-Pomona.
Lyle was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served 5 missions, almost a tithe of his life. He was always willing to serve wherever he was needed and called. He was a humble and kind man to all he met.
He served as a member of the Chino, CA school board for 9 years and as the president of the board twice. Because of his outstanding service, there is a fundamental school for grades K-8 named for him in Chino.
He loved doing research and was an expert in historical places of the church and particularly in the Kirtland, Ohio area. His favorite things include family, reading, yard work, fixing things rather than replacing them, woodworking and temple service.
He married Gladys Arlene Anderson in the Salt Lake temple on June 20, 1958. She preceded him in death in April 1998. He married Lois Powell on May 6, 1999 in the Seattle temple.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Briggs and 11 children in their combined families. Danna (Bill) Green, Stephen Briggs, Daniel (Franca) Briggs, Jill McDonald, Amy Sue Briggs, Kerry (Rosana) Loynd, Ron (Rozanne) Loynd, Blair Loynd, Steven Loynd, Cheryl (Steve) Bell, and David (Lisa) Loynd. Also by two brothers Kay (Georgia) Briggs, Garth (Kolene) Briggs, and one sister, Doralie Gambles. Lyle was blessed with 42 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Idaho Falls 2nd Ward chapel on the corner of 9th and Boulevard at 11:00 am Monday, October 10, 2011. A viewing will be held from 10:00 to 10:45 that day. Burial will be in the Sutton Cemetery in Archer.
