Obituary

Sidney Lyle Jones, 77, died Monday, June 6, 2011 at the Rexburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born April 12, 1934 to Ben and Fern McCord Jones in Shelby, MT.

When Lyle was three, his father passed away and the family moved to Nebraska and later to Ashton, Idaho. When he was 17 his Mother married Emerson Hill Wilcox. Lyle spent several years in the Kilgore, Dubois, Spencer area.

On June 25, 1953 he married Blanche Smith. She died in 2008. They lived in the Baker-Salmon area for 8 years. During this time Lyle built many miles of fence and worked as a ranch hand. He then worked at the sugar factory in Rigby. He sold Forney Welders, where he is known for selling the most private use welders in one day, as of today he still hold that record, he also worked at Thiokal in Brigham City, Utah. Lyle and Blanche lived in Montana from 1966 to 1972 where Lyle worked as a truck driver hauling logs and cutting and hauling Christmas trees. From 1967 to 1971 Lyle and Blanche Owned and Operated the Tiny Tyke Rodeo for kids all over the State of Montana and parts of Idaho. He owned and operated the Big Sky Donkey Basketball. Lyle was know for his rodeoing, donkey basketball, and adopting kids without dads. In 1972 they moved to Brooklyn, Michigan where he ran Frontier City - an Old West Town and Amusement Park. They then lived a year at Sugar City and in Michigan and from 1976 to 1980 they lived in Teton Basin before moving back to Sugar City. He was known for collecting parts off of old machinery to reuse.

Lyle enjoying spending time with his family, camping, packing in the back country, attending and entering competition during Mule Days in Condon and Drummond, Montana and Sand Point, Idaho. In 2001 his dream of going to Alaska came true when he rode up in the semi with his son-in-law,Jay. Lyle made his last camping/hunting trip in October of 2010. Give the man a welder and a cutting torch and he could design anything and make amazing art.

Lyle is survived by his children; Boone (Jerianne) Jones of Stevensville, MT, Sharon (Jay) Sanford of Marion, MT, Delva Jones of Longmont, CO, Lester Jones and Emerson (Heidi) Jones of Sugar City, Charlie (Amy) Jones of Rexburg, Blanche (Tink) Crawley of Laplace, LA, a brother, Leonard (Carolyn) Jones, 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife, his parents, step-father and a brother and a sister.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2011 at the Sugar City 4th Ward on Teton Avenue with Bishop Josh Bingham officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Sugar City Cemetery.
