Lyle Richard Smith, 94, of Rexburg and former resident of Teton Valley, Idaho, died Saturday, April 4, 2009 at the home of his son, Delwin in Felt, Idaho.
Lyle was born to Jim and Edna Smith on April 11, 1914 in Rexburg. He attended school and graduated in Rexburg from Madison High School. Summer months were spent in Felt where his parents farmed.
He married Jo Kemp November 19,1937 in Rigby. The marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on November 3,1955. They made their home in Felt for over 40 year and they were blessed with two sons Kent and Delwin. In 1993, He and Jo moved back to Rexburg. Jo died April 13, 2007.
Lyle was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings including Sunday School President, Bishop and High Councilman.
He served as a member of the Idaho Wheat Growers Association and he was appointed by Governor John Evans as president of that group, serving for ten years. He traveled to several places, while in office, including, Hawaii, Italy, North Africa and Europe.
He is survived by his son Delwin (Elaine) Smith of Felt, and nine grandchildren; Todd, Monte and his wife Barbara, Debi and her husband Randy, Cody and his wife Marilyn, Amber and her husband Will, Shelli and her husband Rial, Kelli, J.R. and his wife Tabi, and Lyle as well as 15 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Overton "Buss" Smith, his wife Jo, a son Kent and a great-grandson Russell.
Funerals services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 9, 2009 at the Tetonia LDS Church with Bishop Brent Robson officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and Thursday at the church in Tetonia from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Sutton Cemetery at Archer.
