Mable Shizuka Hosoda Sakota, age 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 21, 2016 with her family by her side. Our beloved mom, grandma, great-grandma, wife, auntie, daughter, sister and friend was reunited with her sweetheart, John, to continue their eternal journey together.
Mable was born on April 13, 1928 to Harry Karoku Hosoda and Haruto Satoh in Salt Lake City. She has two older brothers, Leo and Paul. When she was two years old, her family moved to St. Anthony, Idaho where her father bought a restaurant, the Star Café.
Mable had a love for life and a gift for making friends. She loved to play practical jokes and enjoyed teasing. She was also very clever and a super hard worker as she helped at the family restaurant. In the summertime, she went to the Japanese language school in Rexburg where she met her sweetheart and future husband, John Shigezo Sakota. They were married on Nov. 18, 1947 and later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on August 10, 1985 for time and all eternity. Mable was a constant support to her husband as she helped with the farm and raised seven children. They were blessed with three sons and four daughters who kept their home busy with laughter, noise and fun.
Mable loved to sew and made the girls' clothes, including their beautiful wedding gowns and prom dresses. She loved to garden and serve others as a "Pink Lady" at Madison Memorial Hospital. Mable had a talent to cook like a chef as she hosted an annual New Year's feast for her family, fit for royalty. Mable had a very generous and soft heart. Tears would flow easily with an abundance of love she had for her family. Mable always had soft drinks, candy and snacks, as well as a refrigerator full of home-cooked food for anyone that visited.
She loved to travel, especially to Japan and several other countries.
Mable served in the Idaho Falls Temple for over 20 years, a calling that she absolutely cherished. In fact, she woke at 2:00 am just so that she could attend the early morning devotional before her shift.
Mable is survived by her children, Dan (Michelle) Sakota, Jay (Peigi) Sakota, Lucinda (Van) Davis, Marcy (Dave) Bitter, Johnette (John) McBride, Tina (Mike) Murri, and daughter-in-law Judy Sakota; by her brothers, Leo and Paul Hosoda; and by 26 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren.
