Obituary

Our beautiful, kind and loving mother, and friend returned to our Heavenly Father and is now free from the pains of a courageous body. She passed away December 10, 2011 in Salt Lake City, Utah from complications of surgery. She battled with diabetes, was a breast cancer survivor and last of all, ended her fight with heart disease.

Maria "Mary" celebrated May 5,1937 as her birth date. Born in Arory, Masbate Philippines to Euhino Castora and Pilomia Barbolino, she was the third of nine children.

On September 24,1960, she married Jerry J. Hathaway while he served in the Navy Air Force. A year later they moved to the states. They loved and raised four children in Idaho.

Maria was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithful in whatever calling that she was asked. She was especially gifted with and loved children and served well in the Primary nursery.

Mary was a hard worker and was employed at Basic American Foods for a portion of her life. To Mary, everyone was a friend and there were no strangers. She had a contagious smile and offered it freely to all. Maria enjoyed and was a talented cook and shared with all who entered her door. She also shared her beautiful, meticulously handmade, crocheted gifts and crafts with everyone. Most of all Maria loves her family. She was the best mother to her four, very grateful children, the best grandmother to her 14 grandchildren and the best great grandmother to 13 children.

She is survived by her forever friend Jerry J. Hathaway, daughters; Susan (Kirt) Greenhalgh, Marlene (Chad) Ploc-her, Janet Hathaway, and son Gregory (Melissa) Hathaway and her grandchildren and great grandchildren, one sister Orlanda Terry of Rexburg, two brothers Jose, and Domingo Castora in the Philippines and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2011 at the Rexburg North Stake Center (314 East 2nd North) with Bishop Gary Lovell officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday at the stake center from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Teton-Newdale Cemetery.
