Marian Cheney Brown, 81, of Lewisville, Idaho, passed away May 8, 2017, at Homestead Assisted Living Center in Rexburg.
Marian was born June 24, 1935, in Great Falls, Montana, to Lawrence Milton Cheney and Sibyl Killpack Cheney. As a young child she lived in Montana, North and South Dakota, Texas and Oregon. She graduated from Bend High School in Bend, Oregon in 1952. She later attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. During this time she was awarded a scholarship to attend the prestigious Merrill-Palmer Institute for one semester in Detroit, Michigan. She also participated in the Hill Cumorah Pageant in 1957. She graduated from BYU with a degree in teaching.
After teaching in Colonia Juarez, Mexico for a year, she served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in that same area.
Marian was active throughout her entire life in the LDS church. She was an educator for most of her adult life. She played the violin and enjoyed music and dancing. She was know for her kindness and generosity to others. She loved her children and grandchildren greatly and had lifelong love for animals, especially her special dogs and cats.
She married Francis Duane Torsak on June 10, 1964, in Cardston, Alberta, Canada. They had two children, Jimmy Don and Dixie Lee. Marian and Duane were later divorced. Marian married Perry Rex Brown in the Idaho Falls temple in 1980. After 20 years, they were divorced, but later remarried at the Lewisville Church in 2015. They remained friends in their years apart and he was caring and loving in her declining years of poor health.
Marian always felt called to work on Family History and served a mission at the Family History Center in Idaho Falls. She and Rex also served a mission together at the Food Distribution Center in Idaho Falls.
She is survived by her beloved husband Perry Rex Brown of Lewisville; son Jimmy Don Torsak of Denver, Colorado; daughter Dixie Lee Torsak of Salem, Oregon; step-children Keith (Beth) Brown of Paris, Texas, Dale (Susie) Brown of Farr West, Utah, David (Roberta) Brown of Westminister, Colorado, Steven (Denise) Brown of Eight Four, Pennsylvania, Wanda Brown of Logan, Utah; 18 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; siblings, Barbara (William) Conway of Rexburg, Judy (Jay) Peterson of St. Anthony, Craig (Marsha) Cheney of Provo, Utah.
Marian was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Jennifer Rae Brown Dodson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 13, at the Lewisville LDS Chapel, 474 North 3450 East. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Lewisville Cemetery under the direction of Bert Flamm Mortuary.
