Marilyn Forsyth Schofield, 69, of Sugar City, suddenly passed away at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center on January 10, 2015 after suffering a stroke the day before. At the time of her passing, she was surrounded by many of her family members.
Marilyn was the third daughter of seven children born to Marion G. and Grace Gallup Forsyth. She grew up on a small farm outside of Sugar City. She graduated from Sugar-Salem High School, Ricks College and BYU in Provo. She graduated magna-cum-laude with a degree in Home Economics. After graduating, she married William "Bill" Schofield in the Idaho Falls Temple on June 21, 1968.
After Bill's graduation, they moved to Dallas, Texas where they had their first daughter, AnJanette. The opportunity to purchase the Sugar Mercantile in Sugar City brought them back to their hometown. After the Teton Dam destroyed their store, they built Schofield's Food Village and together served the people of Sugar City for 21 years. In 1973, another daughter, Rebecca Ann joined their little family. Together they all worked side by side in growing and maintaining their business.
When they sold the store, Marilyn became the librarian at the middle school in Sugar City. This job combined her love of children and reading. Her library was always clean and meticulous, and she took great pride in helping the children understand the importance of books and reading. Marilyn was an avid reader and had a novel or a church publication within reach at all times. When there was time to relax she enjoyed skiing, family vacations, and watching sports with her husband, Bill. For many years, one of her favorite pastimes was walking in the beautiful outdoors, or when the weather changed, walking on her treadmill and riding her stationary bike.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in the Relief Society as President, counselor and teacher. She also served in the Young Women's auxiliary. One of her greatest attributes was supporting her husband as he fulfilled many callings throughout the years.
She is survived by her husband, Bill and her daughters, AnJanette (Ned) Warner, Idaho Falls, Rebecca (Garth) Webber, Holladay, Utah and seven grandchildren. Her siblings are Sandra (Terry) Leishman of Rexburg, Cheryl (Kay) Briggs of Salt Lake City, Steven (Marilynn) Forsyth of Oakton, Va, Karen (Bill) Hollist of Teton, sister-in-law Leanne Forsyth of Sugar City, and J'Lene (Larry) Stoddard of Idaho Falls.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Kirk.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 16, 2015 at the Sugar City Stake Center. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and on Friday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the services. Interment will be at the Sugar City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Sugar Salem Kershaw Intermediate Library to help extend Marilyn's love of children and books.
