Marilyn Hansen Sonderegger, 85, of Sugar City, passed away peacefully January 6, 2013.
Marilyn was born June 2, 1927, in Ocean Beach, CA, to Hans Christian and Cleta Hancey Hansen. She was the second of three daughters. She graduated from Logan High School in Logan, UT in 1945 and went on to attend Utah State University. She received her Associate's Degree from Ricks College in 1974 in the same graduating class as her son, Ferron.
While attending Utah State University, Marilyn was involved in the ROTC sponsor program, the Kappa Delta Sorority, and won many pageants. She also met her husband, Ferron W. Sonderegger, who was captain of the Aggies football team. They were sealed in the Logan LDS temple on May 7, 1947.
Marilyn worked as a lab technician at the Budge Clinic in Logan, and as a secretary for the Cache Valley Nursing Clinic. She also worked as a secretary and accountant for School District 322 in Sugar City and taught typing at Ricks College. She was active in the Faculty Women's Association at Ricks College and in the Madison County Republican Women's organization.
Marilyn was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities in the church, including Young Women's President, in the Relief Society Presidency, Stake Primary Presidency and as a Sunday School teacher. She loved working with the youth of the church.
Marilyn was very proud of her Danish and English heritage and she made sure that her family knew the stories of their ancestors. As a young girl, she and her sisters did hundreds of baptisms for the dead in the Logan Temple. For many years, she did extensive work on her and her husband's genealogy.
She loved needle work and made temple aprons for all of her family, including her grandchildren. She was a very talented artist, storyteller, and poet, and enjoyed sharing her artwork and poetry with her friends and family. She recently handwrote and illustrated a book of poetry. Her family enjoyed listening to her stories.
She enjoyed going huckleberry picking, going on picnics and hosting barbeques in the backyard. She loved Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Tetons. She was an avid Utah Jazz fan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ferron W., her parents, her sister, Peggy, and a half-sister, Luna Margaret. She is survived by her children, Ferron E. Sonderegger, John Christian Sonderegger, Holly Marie Hope, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and her sister Byrnece Maughan.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2013, at the Sugar City Stake Center, with Bishop Bill Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and Saturday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the stake center prior to services. Burial will be in the Sugar City Cemetery.
