Marion Louise Stiles Van Houten, 97, of Rexburg, died Friday, November 30, 2018 at her home. She was born on August 28, 1921 in Butte, Montana. Her mother Louise Stiles, died when she was eight and Marion spent her summers on her father's ranch in Montana and her winters with her mother's family in Rexburg.
She attended Montana Teachers College in Dillon, Montana. Upon receiving her degree she taught school in Fort Peak Montana. During World War II she and a friend, Theorea DeLong went to San Francisco where they worked as rod clerks in the shipyards to help with the war effort.
After the war she met her future husband, Jack Van Houten. They were married in Butte, Montana in 1946. They had three children, Leslie, John and Ann. They bought a house in Rexburg in 1963. Marion taught second and third grade in Teton until she retired in the 1970's.
She enjoyed painting with water color and oils. She was a member of the bridge club and the book club. She loved animals and was never without a pet. She valued education and perseverance. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her children; John Van Houten of Rexburg, Idaho, Leslie (Phillip) Belisle of San Francisco, California and Ann (Bob) Craig of Walhalla, South Carolina as well as three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Van Houten.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 Wednesday, December 5th at the Rexburg 4th Ward Chapel. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. and again from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Rexburg Cemetery.
