Marlene Rasmussen
Thora Marlene Rasmussen, 81 of Rexburg, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2017 surrounded by loving family members at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls. Marlene was born April 10,1936 to Charles T. and Thora Belnap French in Roberts, Idaho. She grew up and attended schools in Roberts. After graduating from Roberts High School, she worked at the INEEL as a secretary until the birth of her first child.
On October 21,1955 Marlene married her eternal companion, Don J. Rasmussen in the Idaho Falls LDS temple. Don and Marlene settled in Rexburg, Idaho. Marlene was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and homemaker. She succeeded in raising eight wonderful children and making her home a heaven on earth. She fulfilled several church callings such as Primary teacher, Primary and Relief Society presidencies, choir director for Relief Society and Primary, music chairman and as a visiting teacher for 48 years. Marlene and Don served a two year stake mission and also as service missionaries for the Rexburg Stake. Marlene worked as a secretary for her husband's masonry business.
Marlene had several interests that included serving as president and member of the Cantabile Choir, serving her children, canning garden vegetables, caring for her flowers, doing cross-word puzzles, watching Jazz basketball and most of all, visiting with her grandchildren.
Marlene had a strong testimony of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a valiant example to her children and posterity. She loved the gospel and loved to share her testimony. She shared several life experiences where she truly believed she had a guardian angel.
She was preceded in death by her husband Don and her parents. She is survived by her children;
Rocky DeVar (Anne) Rasmussen of Wilford, Jolene Rae (Tom) Archibald, Tamara K. (Byron) McKague and Shamae Lynn (John) Bowen all of Rexburg, Trena Dawn (Craige) Harrison of Provo, Utah, Bryce J. (Natalie) Rasmussen of Idaho Falls, Kent Leon (Heather) Rasmussen of Richland, Washington, and Rochelle (Jason) Russell of Good Year, Arizona, 29 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, four brothers; Lamar (Marilyn) French of Emily, Minnesota, Robert French of Roberts, Gene (Renee) French of Rigby, Idaho and Rene (Alicia) French of Twin Falls, Idaho.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 22, 2017 at the Rexburg Center Stake building at 590 Summerwood Drive in Rexburg. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Flamm Funeral Home at 61 North 1st East in Rexburg and again on Friday at the stake center from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will take place in the Rexburg Cemetery. The family would like to thank everyone at Carriage Cove and EIRMC for services rendered.
