IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marvin
Jones
September 7, 1943 – February 24, 2022
During the wee hours of February 24, 2022, Robert Marvin Jones passed away in comfort at home in Hibbard, Idaho. He was born on September 7, 1943 to Miles Robert Jones and Helen Marie Christopherson in a home about 200 ft from where he died making him a true Hibbard native.
He was raised in Hibbard and attended Madison High School. Soon after graduation his father suffered a debilitating stroke which left him unable to continue farming. Marvin assumed that responsibility along with caring for his parents and siblings which included a brother and a sister. Two older half brothers had already left home. He learned the ropes of farming with help from an uncle and family friends.
He married Phyllis Jane Hunter on November 20, 1969 in the Idaho Falls LDS temple.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ and served in many leadership positions including Young Men's President, Elders Quorum President and a counselor in a bishopric at BYU-I, as well as teaching various classes and ages. He especially loved being involved with the youth and always counseled them to look out for and help each other, and not to base their self esteem on material things. Many kept in touch with him for years.
He became an excellent farmer but also enjoyed activities such as snow & water skiing, ice skating, riding horses, boating & rafting, camping, hiking, snow machining, swimming & fishing but his favorite thing was going for rides with his family. As children joined the family he loved teaching them how to enjoy these various activities with him. They worked hard together on the farm and then played hard. He was a jack of all trades whether it be welding, building farming equipment and trailers, plumbing, electrical, pouring cement, or shoeing horses,
He loved his horses and dogs. His latest canine friend was a Black Lab named Pete and they were constant buddies. He was fun loving with a great sense of humor and loved to visit with friends and tell jokes. He also was ready and willing to help a neighbor or friend.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years and 5 children: Jennifer (James) Chambers, Doug Jones (Kirii) of Meridian, ID, Derek Jones (Emily) of Saratoga Springs, UT, Jaime (Jared) Leuschen of Brentwood, CA, Darrell Jones of Hibbard and a brother Charles Jones of Archer, ID and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Nancy Jones and 2 half brothers, DeVere Jones and Lyle Jones.
