Obituary

Marvin Glen Nelson, 79 of Rexburg, died April 5, 2009 at his home. He was born January 28, 1930 at home in Burton to Andrew A. and Wilhelmina Vanderwell Nelson. He was the fifth of eleven children. He grew up following his parents as they taught at schools surrounding Rexburg finally settling in Rexburg.
He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed traveling Europe when he had time off. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission in 1955 in the Central Atlantic States. He served in the same calling for the last eighteen years all while serving in other church capacities.
On May 10,1957 he married Beverly Wasden in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He worked for Basic American Foods for 30 years retiring in 1996. Beverly passed away on August 29,1985. During this time he took on a greater role raising his daughters and a son left at home and actively supporting his children who had started families of their own.
He enjoyed planting a garden and watching it grow and mature. His garden was well known for its beauty and Marvin for his skill. He enjoyed driving and would often leave in the morning and spend the day going "where the road took him".
He was quiet and reserved yet had a great sense of humor. He was a hard worker and a devoted father, always teaching his children the value of hard work.
He is survived by his children; Quade (Denese) Nelson of Salt Lake City, Utah, Flint (Merri Sue) Nelson of Ririe,Idaho, Crystal (Norm) Spackman of Rexburg, Idaho Melodi (Andrew) Elison of Caldwell, Idaho, Dustin (Cami) Nelson of St. George, Utah, LaTawna Nelson of St. Anthony, Idaho and Heidi (Troy) Thurgood of Rexburg, Idaho, 29 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Marvin in also survived by siblings; Arlene (Warren) Williams of Provo, Utah, Lois (Don) Hatch of Orem, Utah, Merla Nelson of Rexburg, Idaho, Dwain (Maxine) Nelson of Vernal, Utah, David (Charlotte) Nelson of Collinston, Utah, Nylin (Diane) Nelson of Rexburg, Idaho and
Nelljean (Gaylen) Harris of Highland, Utah. He is preceded in death by his wife Beverly, a daughter LaNeice, two grandchildren, two brothers , a sister and his parents.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 9, 2009 at the Salem LDS Church (3470 North Salem Road) with Bishop Charles Allen officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and Thursday, at the church, from noon until 12:45 p.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Rexburg Cemetery.
