Mary Collum Barney, 65 of Chester, died Saturday, July 4, 2015 at her home after a battle with cancer since last October.
She was born April 29, 1950 in Williams, Arizona to James William and Lela Fay Hickman Collum. She received her education in several Arizona schools and received her teaching degree while living in Reno, Nevada. She taught special need children for several years.
She married Keith Barney on March 6, 1970 in Tonopah, Nevada. They lived in Chino Valley, Nevada where they raised their family. They moved to Chester in 1990 where they continued to live.
While living here she worked in various jobs mostly custodial in nature and she retired from the Madison School District.
Early in her life she enjoyed racing stock cars and won several trophies. While raising her children she always had them participate in the county fairs and would display their ribbons on the walls of her home. She loved the outdoors, everything from growing flowers to hunting and fishing.
She is survived by her husband Keith of Chester, ID; Children, Mike (Lisa) Barney of Ashton, ID; Edgar (Melody) Barney of St. Anthony, ID; Lillian (Jeff) Froehlich and Samuel Barney both of Chester, ID; Catherina (Michael) Light of Globe, AZ; Brent Barney of Ashton, ID; and Tammy (Brian) Radford of Winnemucca, NV; Sisters, Karon (George) Robertson of Ashton, ID; and Fran (Eddie) Dunn of Sierra Vista, AZ; 10 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father James Collum who died when she was three; her mother and step father, Lela Fay and Sam Kaster; two brothers and her son Earl Leone Barney.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at 11:00 at the Wilford Cemetery. The family will receive friends and family on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Bert Flamm Mortuary prior to proceeding to the cemetery.
