Mary Lou Barrett 71, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday March 19, 2022. She was born September 3 rd , 1950 in Tucson Arizona the daughter of George and Ella Barrett. She grew up in Inglewood California along with her sister Nancy. She graduated from Morningside High School in 1967. Mary Lou went on to live in several different cities in California including San Francisco, Redondo Beach, Torrance and Sonora. She worked for Greyhound Bus lines for many years and loved driving all over the Southwestern United States. Her only child a daughter Charlotte was born in 1985.
Mary Lou relocated to Sonora, California in 1994. While living in Sonora she worked as a school bus driver and then spent many years working for a Center for a Non-Violent Community. In her time at CNVC she worked as a victims advocate and enjoyed helping women in the community. In her retirement she loved playing the ukulele. Her favorite past time was playing ukulele with her friends in the Blue Shoes Ukulele Orchestra. She loved playing at various community events all over the Mother Lode. Most recently in 2020 Mary Lou moved to Rexburg, Idaho with her daughter Charlotte and son-in-law, Mosese to be a full-time grandma to her only grandson, Viliami. She loved going for rides and exploring the natural beauty that is so abundant in southeast Idaho.
Mary Lou is survived by her daughter Charlotte (Mosese) and grandson Viliami Fatafehi of Rexburg, Idaho. Her sister Nancy (Carl) Johnson of Sonora, California. Her niece Katie Johnson, Katie's husband Larry Giles and children Avery and Una of Sonora California.
She is preceded in death by her nephew Barrett Johnson, and her parents George and Ella Barrett.
The family is asking that in-lieu of flowers to please donate to a local youth music program where you live.
