Obituary

Max B. Dayton passed away peacefully on March 17, 2021 in Rexburg, at the Homestead Assisted Living Center. He was eager to join his sweetheart, Carol, who passed away on January 17, 2021.
Max was born June 29,1930 in Wilford, Idaho to Charles Augustus Dayton and Edna Irene Birch Dayton. He joined a family of an older sister and 2 brothers, and later another sister was born.
Max was raised on the family farm where he learned patience, responsibility, and the value of hard work.
He attended grade school in the Wilford School House and then attended High School in Sugar City. After graduation he joined the U.S. Navy serving in the Korean War. He served in the Navy for 4 years. After serving for 2 years he came home for a 20 day leave and married Carol Gwen Thompson Dayton, on October 10, 1952. Max worked hard to provide for his family. He worked for Rogers Brothers Potato Company, farmed with his brothers, ran a custom hay cutting business, did lots of backhoe work, and owned the Teton Service Station in Teton City with his brother Earl. Max eventually took a position as a Rural Mail Carrier for the Wilford area. He faithfully delivered mail to Wilford residents for 17 years. He took pride in all that he did and always gave 110%.
Max was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served in many positions including Bishop and a counselor in a Bishopric. He served many years as the Ward Clerk. Max served 3 Stake Missions and a proselytizing mission to Houston, Texas with his sweetheart Carol. He also loved serving in the Rexburg Temple. He was a great example and was the first to volunteer for many service projects. Quiet service was what he enjoyed best, and many people were recipients of his kind and generous ways.
Max's greatest treasure was his family. He encouraged his children to become involved in school and community activities. He loved sports and coached Little League Baseball. He loved attending baseball games, basketball games, soccer games, and music recitals for grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was their biggest fan.
Max is preceded in death by his wife, Carol; a grandson, Dayce Campbell; his parents and siblings; Elda Dayton Miller, Dean Dayton, Earl Dayton, and Marilyn Dayton Beech. He is survived by his children; Patti (Bruce) Crapo of Parker, Idaho; Tammy (Ken) Phillips of Salem, Idaho; Jerrice (Brent) Youngberg of Layton, Utah; Daren (Denise) Dayton of Wilford, Idaho; Marci (Scott) Campbell of Riverdale, Utah; 19 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild with another on the way; Brother and sister-in-law, J. Lyle and Barbara Thompson, sisters-in-law, Kathy Thompson and Merlyn Thompson.
On behalf of the Dayton family, we would like to express our thanks to the dedicated staff at the Homestead Living Facilities in both Rexburg and St. Anthony, for the loving care they gave to our Dad. We would also like to thank the Hospice nurses who were so compassionate and loving to Dad in his final days.
