Oakey
November 16, 1928 – September 9, 2021
Max Oakey age 92, son of Charles Ernest Oakey and Mary Ann Robertson Oakey passed away,Sept. 9, 2021 at Cache Valley Assisted Living, Providence Utah. He has been reunited with his wife and family members.
Max was born in Plano and attended school in Plano, Edgin Bench and Sunnydell, ID. He graduated from Madison High School in Rexburg in 1947. He was called to Active Duty in the US. Army Dec 19, 1950 and fulfilled assignments as Medical Technician and Corporal until he was released Nov. 22, 1952. He married JoAnn Drown, March 15, 1954 and they made their home in Sunndydell, ID.
Max worked as a mechanic and eventually started his business, Valley Wide, in Rexburg, ID in 1972. He repaired, cars, farm equipment and small engines. Max enjoyed his work, weathered many storms including the Teton flood of 1976.His business was successful until he retired in 1997. He valued his many friends and associates in South Eastern Idaho and felt blessed to live in the area.
Max enjoyed serving as a bishop of the Sunnydell Ward from 1985 to 1992. He and Jo Ann enjoyed serving in the Idaho Falls Temple. They also served a mission inCass Lake, Minnesota in 1997 where they made many friends and valued their missionary experiences.
Maxis preceded in death by his three sisters, Mildred (John Vernal) Hunt, Arvilla (Elwin) Bradshaw and Nora (Bert) Caldwell. He is survived by his children, Deann Oakey, Garth (Debbie) Oakey, Shane (Joan) Oakey, Lara Oakey Wright (Tom), and Brianna Oakey (Scott) Cowley and preceded in death by his son, Kim Jay Oakey. He and Jo Ann have 21 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 20, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Archer-Sunnydell Chapel. The family will receive friends Sunday, September 19, 2021 from 5:30 until 7:00 p.m. and Monday from 10:00 until 10:45 a.m. both times at the Archer-Sunnydell Church. Interment will be in the Sutton Cemetery with military honors by the National Guard Honorguard and the Madison County Veterans.
