Maxine Drennen

Maxine Mary Simmons Hill Drennen, 92, of Rexburg, died February 18, 2009, of natural causes in Rexburg at Homestead Homes. She was born February 8, 1917, in Lyman, Idaho, in her grandmother's home, to Theodore and Mary Jane Bybee Simmons.

She attended schools in Madison County and after graduating, went to beautician's school in California and received her degree. Later in her life, she was able to attend Ricks College and graduated with an Associate Degree in homemaking.

After she returned to Rexburg from California, she met and married Dean Merrelle Hill and had four sons together: Ted, Rick, Scott and Doug. After losing Merrelle in a tragic accident at home, she met and married Hugh Drennen and two sons, Robert and Shane Drennen, joined the family.

During her lifetime she was very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions. Maxine enjoyed gardening; she grew the most beautiful roses ever. She loved the outdoors, enjoying rides with friends and family to Island Park and West Yellowstone. She was also a wonderful seamstress. She enjoyed her civic and bridge clubs, and was a volunteer at Madison Memorial Hospital for many years.

She traveled the world throughout her life. Closer to home she was considered a "Snow Bird", traveling to Sun City, Arizona for six months every year to enjoy the warm winters. Her summers were spent playing tennis and enjoying her family, she was truly an avid tennis player. She also enjoyed learning to play the organ. Maxine was truly a unique woman and will missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by three sons; Ted Hill of Coeur D'Alene, Idaho, Richard D. (Cindy) Hill of Richmond, Indiana, Douglas K. (LeAnn) Hill of Rexburg, Robert Drennen of Washington and Shane Drennen of Boise, Idaho. Mom is leaving an endless posterity of a precious family. She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Dean Merrelle Hill and Hugh Drennen, four brothers Ross, Jess, Ralph and Al Simmons; a son, Scott Hill and a great-nephew Quinn Millward.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 23, at the Park Street Chapel in Rexburg. The family will receive friends Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Rexburg Cemetery under the direction of Flamm Funeral Home.
