Mary Maxine Saurey, 97, of Chester, Idaho and Island Park, Idaho passed away Sunday, September 20, 2015, in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Maxine was the youngest of nine children born on November 14, 1917, in Bayard, Nebraska, to James Asa Cadwell and Lulu Parks Cadwell. Maxine was just 6 weeks old when her father was killed and her mother was left a widow with nine children at the age of 35. With the help of the older boys, the family continued to farm. She graduated from Bayard High School in 1935. Maxine attended college at Chadron State Normal school and started her teaching career that spanned 37 years. Maxine taught school in Nebraska, Wyoming and Idaho. Maxine worked hard going to summer school and taking extension classes and finally realized her dream and graduated from Idaho State University in 1966. She taught 2nd grade for 18 years in St. Anthony, Idaho.
She was married to Earl Radmall in 1941. They were later divorced. On September 20, 1957 she married Keith Saurey and they were married until Keith passed away in 1997. They ranched and farmed in Chester and Island Park, while raising Keith's son, Kim. She was blessed with 3 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Maxine enjoyed many years in which she wintered in Yuma, Arizona and came back to the ranch in Island Park for the summers. She was a voracious reader and enjoyed snowmobiling, golfing, dancing, bridge and any other card game. She was a member of Targhee Women Club, Island Park Ladies Club, PEO, and Island Park's Little Church in the Pines. She was always up for a party with all of her social activities.
Survivors include her sister Elizabeth Dueker, daughter-in-law Tauna Saurey, sister-in-law Marie Momberger, grandchildren Landon (Lindsay) Saurey, Courtney (Mitch) Harris, and Tyler Saurey, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, three sisters, son, and a grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 2, 2015, at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg. The family will meet with friends Friday from 12:00 to 12:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Rexburg Cemetery.
