Obituary

Our loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and Uncle Mel passed away Sunday, September 9, 2018 of natural causes. He was born in Teton, Idaho to Edward and Verna Sorensen on February 4, 1922. He was the second child of nine.

Mel married the love of his life Thelma "Darlene" Brumfield on July 3, 1948, in Denver Colorado. They had four boys, Jim, Wes, Mike & Thomas. She was his life partner until her death in August of 2001 due to cancer.

Mel served in the U.S. Army during WWII as an infantryman then a crewman on an anti-tank weapon, where he was wounded and received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He saw action in both Africa and Italy. After changing to the U.S. Air Force, he served in Korea during that conflict. He served in the Air Force until his retirement in 1964. During his service time we traveled to parts of the world most people read about. Jim was born in Lowry Field, Co., Wes at Johnson AB, Japan, Mike at Nellis AFB, Nevada and Thomas at Shaw AFB, South Carolina. Stationed also In England, we got to see most of Europe. After Dad's retirement and a short stay in Idaho Falls, Idaho, we ended up at Hill AFB, Utah. He worked at Hill as a civilian until his retirement. Dad loved to hunt and fish. After retirement, he and mom would take the motor home south every winter. They really enjoyed the desert.

Dad is survived by his sons, James "Jim"of Clinton UT, George "Wes" & Elisabeth of Star Valley Ranch, WY, Michael "Mike" & Kay of Brownsville OR and Thomas & Annette of Idaho Falls ID. Dad is also survived by nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Dad is preceded in death by his wife Darlene, his mother, father and step father, nine brothers and sisters and his grandson Kristopher.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 13, 2018, at Flamm Funeral Home, 61 North 1st East, in Rexburg ID. The family will receive friends Thursday morning from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home prior to services. Interment will be in the Teton-Newdale Cemetery in Teton, Idaho.
