Obituary

Michael Lee Pennock 69, died suddenly, April 7, 2013 in Rexburg, Idaho. Mike was born May 25, 1943 in Twin Falls, Idaho. He was the son of James Everett Pennock and Rachel Alta Powell. He was the youngest of eleven children. He graduated from Twin Falls High School. He enjoyed being in theatre and playing the trumpet in high school and college.

He attended Santa Ana College and graduated with an Elementary Education Degree from the University of Utah. He taught two years of fifth grade in Tooele, Utah and 27 years of fifth grade in Rexburg, Idaho.

On May 25, 1973 he married Jennifer Jiles of Santa Ana, California in the Logan LDS Temple. They made their home in Rexburg for the last 35 years.

Mike was a collector and had many hobbies. He loved geology, cars, guns, antiques, jazz music, jewelry, and history. He had several collections that he took great pride in. Mike loved to go for drives in the car and enjoyed the beautiful outdoors. He had a lifelong love of animals and especially his dogs. He loved to watch documentaries. He loved The History Channel, PBS, and The National Geographic Channel. He loved learning. Mike loved teaching fifth grade and had a great love for his students. He enjoyed listening to his students recite a weekly poem, his classroom play money program, and the Gold Card Citizenship Program.

Family meant everything to him. He loved his wife of 39 years and together they loved spending time with each other. He had four wonderful daughters and loved to take them shopping and always had an open wallet. He looked forward to any time spent with them and their great families. He loved his son-in-laws and enjoyed finally having some sons of his own. Mike loved his grandchildren and they spent hours at his side. He taught them so many fun things and they enjoyed any chance to be with their "Papa Mike." They will miss going to Maverick for treats on his scooter, shooting off fireworks, four-wheeling in Island Park and being with him.

He is survived by his wife Jenny; his four daughters , Aisa (Bruce) Ricks of Rexburg, Ashley (Adam) Johnson of Boise, Allison (Lyman) Holyoak of Meridian, and Amanda Pennock of Rexburg, eight grandchildren, Lauren, Rhett, Treyson, Grant, Olivia, Chloe, Damien, and Wyatt, brothers Tom, Don, Bob and Bill and sisters Margie and Julie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters, his son Preston Michael Pennock, and his granddaughter Lexie Ricks.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, April 11 at the Rexburg LDS Church near Porter Park, 170 West 1st South. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 PM at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and Thursday at 9:00 AM at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Twin Falls Cemetery.
