Obituary

Michael Von Sorensen, beloved husband, father, brother and best friend passed away on October 18, 2024, due to a long illness at Madison Memorial Hospital in Rexburg, Idaho.

He was the first born to LaVon Sorensen and Phyllis Hawkes Sorensen, on December 4, 1944 in Rexburg, Idaho.  He was sealed for time and all eternity to Gloria Faye Thomason (his life long friend and sweet heart) in Idaho Falls, Idaho Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Michael's life was full of hard work, fun, and the gospel.  He loved his family with all his heart.  He was happiest when he was farming and being with his family.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He served in many callings including, Elder Quorum President, Sunday School President, Bishopric, and High Priest Group Leader.  He loved to go to the temple when his health would permit.  He loved helping others with his big John Deere tractor, plowing everyone in the ward out after a snowstorm.

Michael loved to go Salmon fishing.  He wore his left arm out casting for that big fish, for which he was always successful.  He loved to make his farm and yard beautiful and took great pride in all he did.

He will missed so much.  He is home now with his two children who died as babies and his extended family.  He was looking forward to seeing them again.

He is survived by his wife Gloria Thomason Sorensen and three boys, Jeff (Shannon) Sorensen of West Lake California, Todd (Chress) Sorensen of Rigby, Idaho, and Steve (Heidi) Sorensen of Salem, Idaho, as well as 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by his siblings, Joyce Sorensen of South Jorden, Utah, Steve Sorensen and Debbie Sorensen, both of Mesquite, Nevada.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two children, and one grandchild.

Michael will always be remembered for his great strength and courage from fighting his health battles every day and night, a testament to his family of how strong he was and diligent in all he did.

Michael's warm smile, and excitement for life, spiritual strength and love for his family will be forever remembered.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 26th at the Burton West LDS Chapel.  The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services.  Interment will be in the Burton Cemetery.
