Obituary

Our incredible mom and grandma passed away of causes incident to age at her home in Salem, Idaho on Friday, October 21, 2022.

Mildred (Toots) Johnson was born on May 28, 1930, to James Roy Johnson and Lovernia Elizabeth Hinckley in Hibbard, Idaho. She grew up in Hibbard, graduating from Madison High School in 1948. She graduated from Henager's School of Business in SLC, attended college in California, and graduated with high honors from BYU in 1966 majoring in Spanish. She loved speaking Spanish and blessed anyone she could with her language skills.

Mildred served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1953 and to Little Rock, Arkansas with her sweet husband in 1992.

In August of 1965, Mildred's brother and sister-in-law introduced her to Roy and on May 20, 1967, she was sealed to her sweetheart in the Los Angeles, California Temple. Soon after, they were blessed to adopt their first child, Karen in 1969 and soon after David in 1970. What lucky kids!

Mildred was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served those around her in many callings.

Mildred was a lover of learning. She loved reading all types of books and sharing the knowledge with others. If you put your book down to take a break, she would pick it up and not give it back until she had finished it. She also loved music. She had a beautiful voice, played piano, organ, the guitar and at about the age of 70 began playing the violin. She played in the New Horizon's Orchestra at BYU, practicing for hours each week to be the best she could possibly be.

Mildred was the best listener, making sure that anyone she spoke with knew that she cared, and they were important. Her kids and grandkids were the biggest recipient of this love and each one is sure they are her favorite. She loved serving others; when it became too difficult to write cards, she would call or text her loved ones, neighbors and friends.

Mildred is survived by her two children, Karen (Alan) Beagley of Salem, Idaho and David (Haley) Wimmer of Provo; 6 grandchildren, Ashlie (Zach) Jensen, Garrett, Justin, Hallie (Vance) Heiner, Brandi (Kalan) Fox, and Cody, and 3 great granddaughters, Remington, Elizabeth, and Alexis. She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and loving husband Roy.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at the Henry's Fork Stake Center, 1508 W 3000 N Rexburg. A viewing will be held from 9:45-10:45 that morning prior to the services. Interment will be at the Rexburg Cemetery.
