Obituary

Elden Morrell Allred, 96 of Rexburg, died Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at the Homestead Assisted Living Center in Rexburg. He was born Jun 20, 1917 at Fairview, Wyoming to Elden and Leola White Allred.

Morrell served in the US Army Air Corp during World War II in the Pacific Theater. Memories of this experience influenced him the remainder of his life.

After the war, he moved to Rexburg, Idaho to attend Ricks College, where he met Beth Rasmussen. They were married September 12, 1949 in Rexburg. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS temple. They made their home in Fairview, Star Valley, Wyoming.

Morrell operated a mink fur farm and trapped beaver for the state of Wyoming. He also operated a small cattle ranch in Fairview.

In 1969 Morrell and Beth moved their family to Rexburg where he was employed at Ricks College. While in Rexburg, he sold his ranch and pursued his education in the filed of his dreams - biology. Working on his degree after hours, he earned his bachelors and masters degrees. He ended his career as a professor of biology at Ricks College.

Beth passed away in September of 1976, leaving Morrell and his children lonely. Morrell met Nancy White Jensen in Bethesda, Maryland and they were married in the Washington DC temple on May 1978. They were married 31 years before Nancy, too, passed away.

Morrell was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities, including, counselor in two bishoprics and as a bishop.

Morrell was always a naturalist and a student of life science. But, he enjoyed writing and art, authoring and illustrating several books. He even pursued his hobbies until he was 95 years old.
