Nancy Ellen Burns Quarez, 87, of Stansbury Park, UT and Rexburg, ID passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026.
Nancy was born in Los Angeles, CA to Georgia Alice Lacey and James Edwin Burns on August 2, 1938. She attended schools in the Huntington Park area of Los Angeles before going to the University of Utah where she graduated from their nursing school. Life soon led Nancy to one of her greatest blessings, meeting the love of her life, George Quarez. Together they built a life centered on love, devotion, and family. They began their journey together in California and were blessed with four sons, creating a home filled with warmth, laughter, and enduring memories. Though life’s path carried them through Idaho and Utah, Rexburg, Idaho became the center of Nancy’s life and the place she lovingly called home for many years. It was there that she raised her family, nurtured lifelong relationships, and formed a deep connection to a community that brought her great joy and remained close to her heart throughout her life.
Nancy spent much of her life caring for others, both professionally and personally. As a nurse, she brought compassion, kindness, and comfort to her patients. Beyond her profession, Nancy possessed many remarkable gifts. She was an accomplished pianist with a beautiful soprano voice and shared her love of music through church choirs and the Rexburg Cantabile Singers. Music was woven into the fabric of her life, and she found joy in sitting at the piano or organ whenever she had the opportunity.
Nancy was also a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her faith guided her life and strengthened her commitment to service. Alongside George, she faithfully served a mission for the church in the France Toulouse Mission, creating meaningful friendships and memories through their time together in service.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather Charles Barner, her son Matthew, and her husband George. She is survived by her brother George Madison Burns of Bend, OR and three sons: Stephen (Henry) of Garden Grove, CA, Randall (Mitzi) of Stansbury Park, UT and David (Jason) of South Jordan, UT. She also leaves behind extended family members and friends whose lives were touched by her kindness and generosity,
Nancy will be remembered for her caring heart, her quiet strength, her devotion to family and faith, and the music she brought into the lives of those around her. Her life was one of service, love, and steadfast dedication, and though she will be deeply missed, her influence and memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Her funeral will be held at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg, ID on Friday May 29, 2026 with a viewing at 10:00 AM and service at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Rexburg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Rexburg Tabernacle Legacy Campaign where Nancy participated in many Cantabile Singers concerts. https://www.rexburg.org/o/tabernacle/page/donation-information
