Obituary

Ned Smith Brown, 88, of Plano, died Friday, April 29, 2011 at Homestead Assisted Living of natural causes. He was born July 27, 1922 in Hamer, Idaho to LeRoy Patton and Hazel Eugene Smith Brown.

He attended school in Plano and graduated from Edmunds High School. While in high school he participated in boxing, basketball and baseball.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II in Honolulu, Hawaii.

He married Wilma Muir on March 15, 1944 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They made their home and raised their family in Plano. He supported his children in all of their activities, especially Rodeo Club, football and wrestling.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He was a journeyman carpenter and a farmer. He farmed in Plano, raised horses and cattle. He was a charter member and life-long member of the Upper Valley Cutter Association. He qualified for the World Championship several times.

He loved to teach his kids and grandchildren, with all of his love, how to do everything he had learned. He loved hunting, fishing, camping and playing cards with his family. He loved to travel and visit relatives. He enjoyed family swimming parties at Green Canyon. He liked to pitch horseshoes, have card parties and go square dancing. He was a member of the Upper Valley Squares. He was an excellent cook. He loved animals and always fed his horses and cattle before himself.

His wife Wilma was the love of his life and he demonstrated constant concern for her. They just celebrated 67 wonderful years of marriage. He loved his family and enjoyed playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was honest and taught his family to be the same.

He is survived by his wife Wilma of Plano; children, Linda (Ray) Carlson of Idaho Falls, Gregory (Janet) Brown, Kevin (Theresa) Brown, Kerry "De" (Helen) Brown, Lorna (Bobby) Hines all of Plano, Nedra (Archie) Clark of Idaho Falls; 25 grandchildren and 60 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and two great-granddaughters.

The family extends a special thank you to Homestead Assisted Living and Aspen Hospice.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 3 at the Plano LDS Chapel with Bishop Randy Brown officiating. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and Tuesday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Burial will be in the Plano Cemetery.
