Ned A. Zollinger, 74, of Rexburg (Salem), Idaho, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, May 23, 2026 with his wife Renae by his side following a courageous 9 ½ year battle with brain cancer (glioblastoma). He was under the care of Rexburg Hospice.
Ned was born September 1, 1951, in Rexburg, Idaho, to Dean Walters and Glenna Inez Archibald Zollinger. He attended elementary school in Sugar City and Edmonds, later attending junior high and high school in Sugar City, where he graduated from Sugar-Salem High School in 1970.
Following high school, Ned served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Texas South Mission. After returning home, he attended Ricks College and Idaho State University.
Ned married Renae Sanders of Hamer, Idaho for time and all eternity on March 26, 1975 in the Idaho Falls Temple.
Ned began his banking career in 1975 with Valley Bank in St. Anthony, Idaho, serving first as a loan officer and later as vice president. In 1981, he received his Banking Certificate from Pacific Coast Banking School. In 1984, Ned and Renae purchased the Credit Bureau of Eastern Idaho in Rexburg, which he managed until November 2016, when he was diagnosed with cancer.
Ned was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully served in many callings, including the Elders’ Quorum Presidency, as ward finance clerk, ward clerk and stake high councilor at Ricks College, and stake high councilor in both the Sugar City and Henry’s Fork Stakes.
He was deeply involved in community service throughout his life. While working in St. Anthony, he served as president of the Chamber of Commerce and was especially active in organizing the annual Fisherman’s Breakfast. He also served on the Madison County Planning and Zoning Committee and was a member of the Rexburg Kiwanis Club.
In 1984, Ned became involved with the Madison Parks and Rodeo Committee, which later became the Madison County Fair Board, where he helped with the Whoopee Days Rodeo for more than 20 years. He also served as President and Executive Manager of the Eastern Idaho Rodeo Association (EIRA) from 1985 to 1990.
Ned was a proud supporter of his alma mater and faithfully served on the Board of Trustees for the Sugar-Salem School District from 1989 to 1997.
During the 1990s, Ned became heavily involved in Idaho youth wrestling while traveling with his sons to local and national tournaments. He served as USA Idaho Wrestling State Chairman from 1996 to 2016 and was a member of USA Wrestling’s Kids/Cadet Council Executive Committee and the USA Wrestling Junior Olympics Board of Directors until his cancer diagnosis.
Ned is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Renae, of Salem; his children: Bryan Ned (Shara) Zollinger of Idaho Falls, Brett Ray (Amy) Zollinger of Salem, Brock Dean Zollinger of Salem, and Janell Klingler (Russ) of Salem; his brother, Tom Zollinger of Rexburg; 7 grandsons, 6 granddaughters, and 1 great-granddaughter; as well as many nieces, nephews, and his wrestling boys and girls — they know who they are.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 1, 2026, at the Rexburg Henry’s Fork Stake Center (1508 W 3000 N), with Bishop Cody Diehl officiating.
