Nelia Rowena Cook Brizzee, age 73, of Rexburg, Idaho passed away on November 1st, 2023 after battling colon cancer.

Nelia was born on May 3rd, 1950 to Sylvan and Viola Cook in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Nelia attended East High School and graduated in 1968. She then moved to Rexburg, Idaho and attended Ricks College.

In 1969, Nelia met Val H. Brizzee and they were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on March 6th, 1970. Nelia went on to have seven children, Maurie Lyn Purser, Gabel C. Brizzee, Erin Beth Crittenden, Josh C. Brizzee, Tyler Francis Brizzee, T Jay Brizzee, and James David Brizzee. After 20 years of marriage Val passed away and Nelia went back to Ricks College to gain a degree as a registered nurse. She had a successful, twenty year career as an RN working at Madison Memorial Hospital on the B wing and also at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center working on the fourth floor.

Nelia dedicated her life to supporting and uplifting her family. She excelled at being a loving, generous mother and grandmother who was always helping and encouraging her children and grandchildren through all of their challenges and triumphs. When she wasn't filling her home with warmth and kindness she could be found outdoors where she had a passion for plants and gardening. Nelia enjoyed gathering her family for holiday festivities. She particularly loved Easter and Christmas. Nelia's other hobbies included traveling, reading, sewing, decorating, painting, and family history. Nelia made it her mission to improve the lives of others. She was faithful and diligent throughout her life and served in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Nelia was preceded in death by her parents, Sylvan Neal Cook and Viola Mildred Cook; her brother, Sylvan Neal Cook; her husband, Val H. Brizzee and her son, James David Brizzee. She is survived by her children, Maurie Lyn Purser, Gabel C. (Amy) Brizzee, Erin Beth (Jim) Crittenden, Josh C. (Hilary) Brizzee, Tyler Francis (Stephanie) Brizzee, T.Jay (Jennifer) Brizzee and her 26 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Burton West church building located at 3958 West 2000 South Rexburg, Idaho on Saturday, November 4th at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held on Friday evening, November 3rd at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and from 10:00 a.m to 11:00 a.m at the Burton Church before the service.
