Nellie Rae McDaniel, 86 of St. Anthony, died Sunday January 2, 2011 at Homestead Assisted Living in St. Anthony.
She was born in Vernal Utah to Siney and Helena Hoeft Lewis on December 5, 1924 into a family of ten children, she being the youngest.
She attended formal schooling into High school in Vernal, Utah. At the age of 16, when World War II broke out, she wanted to help with the war effort but was told she was too young. Having a sister in California that was by herself and needed help with her children, Nellie went to California to help tend her nieces and nephews.
While In California she met and married her husband, James Fera McDaniel, before he left to go into the service.
They raised their family in Los Angeles and then moved to Hurricane, Utah and eventually to Tooele, Utah and then from there moved to Idaho. James died in September of 2005.
She loved to knit and to crochet and read which she did a lot of. She struggled with health issues most all of her life. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, nine siblings, Levone; Enola; June; Bertha; Charles; William; Hazel; Carma; and Merle; one grandson, Lester Colledge. She is survived by her children, James (Karan) McDaniel and Diana Jean Colledge; 10 grandchildren and 26 great, grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Anthony 3rd Ward Chapel (507 West 2nd North) with Bishop DelRay Davenport officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the Church. Burial will be in the Rexburg, Cemetery under the direction of Bert Flamm Mortuary.
