Nettie Marie

Mrs. Nettie Marie Winkle (n'ee Walters), of Rexburg, ID, passed away on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 peacefully at her home at the age of 94.
Nettie was born to parents John Lacey and Luella May (Humphrey) Walters on December 21, 1923 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. She grew up on the family farm with her siblings. She loved working on the farm and singing in the church choir. She met the love of her life James William Winkle in Arkadelphia, when she was 12 and he was 13 and it was love at first sight. They married in 1942 on the 31st of January right before James went to serve overseas in WWII. Nettie served as well by working in Galveston preparing ships for the war effort.
After the war they welcomed a son, William Wayne who passed away shortly after birth, Daughters Patsy Ann in 1946 and Paulette Marie in 1948, their son James Anthony in 1949 and daughter Rebecca Lynn in 1951. As a family they lived in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Arizona and finally settled into their forever home in Rexburg, Idaho in 1955.
Nettie loved gardening, tending to her flowers, playing pinochle and spending every second possible with her grandchildren. Nettie was a southern Baptist, a member of the Eastern Stars and the VFW.
Nettie was known for her feisty personality, irreverent sense of humor and for taking care of everyone around her. She was a kind, generous, loving person who always saw the best in everyone. She was a civil rights activist long before the rest of the country followed suit and she never knew a stranger.
Nettie is proceeded in death by her father, mother, brothers, sisters, daughters Patsy Anne Jackson, Paulette Marie Jeffs, and son William Wayne Winkle and grand-daughter Lisa Marie Jeffs and grandson Jason Leonard Jeffs and her best friend Edna Lewis
Nettie is survived by son James Anthony Winkle and daughter in-law Pamela in Rexburg, ID and Rebecca Lynn Bott and Doug Tucker in Pocatello, ID and her grandchildren, Steven Jackson, Connie (Jeffs) Seely, Desiree (Winkle) Weber, Kevin Terrence Bott, Tracy Nicole (Jeffs) Holmes, Marie Rachael (Winkle) Carlson, Anjanette Marie (Winkle) Maxfield, Shayna Bott, and James Anthony Jeffs, her 21 great grandchildren, and her first great, great grandchild, Grace.
Graveside services will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank all of the wonderful staff at Solace Hospice services who took such amazing care of Nettie and who will forever be a part of our family.
