Nina Lou Hathaway, 95, of Rexburg, died Friday March 27, 2026 at the Cottages in Rexburg. She was born August 24, 1930 to Lorin and Verna Ingram Westover, in Rexburg, Idaho.
She grew up in and attended schools in Rexburg, graduating from Madison High School. One day, while walking down the street, on her birthday, she met Keith Hathaway. They made a connection and would marry in 1947.
She would go on to attended Idaho State University and complete her degree in Library Science and Home Economics. They moved to Mountain Home, Idaho, where she taught on the Air Force Base during their time there. The moved to Provo, Utah, for a year before moving to back to the area. She went on to teach at Sugar Salem High School until Kershaw School opened. At that time she became the librarian for Kershaw until her retirement.
She always had a love for reading but she also enjoyed crocheting. She made many afghans and doylies over the years. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. At the Cottages she was able to mingle with others and take various trips which provided meaningful interactions and conversations.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Together, Keith and Nina served two missions; one to the New Zealand LDS Temple and the other to Martin’s Cove.
She is survived by her children; Susan Lish of Hermiston, Oregon, Debra (Terry) Schreiner of Nampa, Idaho, Cindy Allen of Mesa, Arizona, and Margo Hathaway of Pocatello, Idaho, as well as 19 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Myrna Newman Williams of Washington and a brother, Terrell (Kathy) Westover of Rexburg, Idaho.
She is preceded in death by husband, a son, Lorin Hathaway, her parents, a sister, a grandson, and a great grand daughter.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., Sunday, March 29th at Flamm Funeral Home. They will also receive people Monday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m., at the funeral home prior to graveside services at the Rexburg Cemetery.
