Obituary

Nolene McFarland, 83, peacefully passed away at her family home in St. Anthony on Friday, March 1, 2024. During this time, she was blessed to feel the presence of her loving family.

Nolene was born in Soda Springs, Idaho on 9 August 1940, the daughter of Raymond and June Swensen. She was the fourth child in a family of 3 sisters and 4 brothers. She was raised on a family farm and grew up with her brothers and sisters in the small community of Lago, Idaho. Talking about her family, Nolene once said, "All seven of us grew up with unique farm experiences." Nolene's early school years were attended at Thatcher Elementary School. She then attended Grace High School where she graduated in 1958. She continued by attending Business College in Pocatello, Idaho, which helped her early on to obtain employment as a typist and secretary.

Nolene married Gary Harris on April 19, 1960, and they made their family home in Brigham City, Utah. There they raised their two beautiful daughters, Debi and Brenda.  Gary and Nolene later divorced but continued to remain friends in later years.

Nolene married Thomas Neal McFarland on March 24, 1972, and over the next several years they relocated together to several areas where his work would take them. A third beautiful daughter, Shelly, was born in 1975 while they were living in Richmond Utah. They later moved to Henderson, Nevada, where they lived for 12 years.

In 1991, they were able to move to Egin Bench, near St. Anthony, Idaho and restore Neal's grandparent's house which was built in 1902. This became their family home, where they were able to be closer to other family members. Neal passed away in 1994, but Nolene continued living in this home where she has been able to be close to her children and grandchildren.

Above all things, Nolene will always be remembered for her love and care for her family, as well as her beautiful smile and her fun laugh whenever a good story was being told. …

Nolene is survived by one brother, Steve Swensen of Clearfield, UT, and her three daughters, Debi Babcock of Las Vegas, NV, Brenda Harris of St. Anthony, ID, and Shelly McFarland of St. Anthony, ID. Also are 6 grandchildren, Scott, Holly, Gage, Tayla, Huntar, and Nash, and 4 great grandchildren, Gracee, Jorie, Jaxon, and Freya.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and June Swensen, her brothers, Ronald Swensen, Jim Swensen, and Robert Swensen, and her sisters, Shirley Rose, and Barbra Christensen.

Nolene was well known for being passionate with making and keeping a lovely yard.
