Norma Branson Mace 89, of St. Anthony, passed away 8/11/2015, at her home of complications from a long struggle with Alzheimer.
Norma was born June 15, 1926 in Grant, Montana, a daughter to Lyman S. Branson and Ina M. Waldemar Branson. She had four sisters, Eva, Elsie, Shirley, and Elna, and one brother Kelly. Norma grew up on the family farm in Egin where she learned the importance of family and hard work. She attended schools at Heman Elementary School near Egin and in St. Anthony, graduating from St. Anthony High School in 1945.
She married Don E. Mace of Teton City on December 31, 1945 after his return from POW camps in Japan during WWII. Through the years, they added to their family a daughter Terri, and sons Leland, Gene, Buck, Scott and Quin.
Norma was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Because her dad and husband died from cancer, she spent many years donating time for Pennies by the Inch and the American Cancer Society. She enjoyed working in her flower garden and had some of the prettiest flowers around. She worked many hours in the vegetable garden and canning food for her family. Norma became a self-taught seamstress and recovered the kitchen chairs and living room furniture many times. She worked for the Fremont School District for many years as a janitor and cook in the elementary school.
Norma is survived by her daughter, Terri (Areland Jean) Moon of St. Anthony, and five sons, Leland, Gene (Debby), Scott (Shawna) of St. Anthony, Buck (Linda) of Thornton and Quin (LaRae) of Rigby, two sisters, Shirley Cazier of Pasco, Washington and Elna Grover Munns of Archer, 26 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and 27 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, and brother, one grandson and one great granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 17, at the St. Anthony 4th LDS Ward Chapel, with Bishop Rod Perkins officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 to 7:00 p.m. at Bert Flamm Mortuary in St. Anthony, and Monday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Teton-Newdale Cemetery.
