IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Norman J.
Gage
June 6, 1939 – May 20, 2021
Norman J Gage was born to Barbara V. and John Fay Gage in Monticello, Utah June 6, 1939. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, Thursday, May 20, 2021.
He graduated from high school where he enjoyed playing basketball and pulling pranks on his teachers. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served two years in the Canada Toronto Mission, presided over by Thomas S. Monson.
Upon his return he attended a young adult stake activity where he saw the beautiful Diane Murdock and asked for her phone number. This began a nearly 60-year love story that now spans the eternities. He attended BYU where he earned a masters degree in English. He was a graduate assistant at BYU and then accepted a position at Ricks College/BYU-Idaho where he taught English for 35 years.
He traveled the world and everywhere he went he met former students who fondly remembered his influence and kindness. He loved to run and completed 12 marathons. He coached the Sugar-Salem High School cross country team for 10 years. He was loved by his runners and he loved them, too.
Norm built their home in Sugar City where he and Diane raised 9 children. After retiring, Norm and Diane served missions to Honduras, the London Temple, and the Manila Philippines temple. They also served in the Idaho Falls and Rexburg temples.
Norm was skilled at woodworking and all of his children have multiple samples of his work lovingly crafted in "Pop's Shop." Norm was an avid fisherman and loved to take his children and grandchildren with him.
Up until shortly before his death he was walking 10 miles nearly every day. He always made people feel included and important. His testimony and faith will continue to sustain and lift all who know him.
He is survived by his wife, Diane ; their 9 children; Elana (Mark) Gallup , Jennifer (Sterling) Knapp , Nathan (Tonya) Gage , Jared (Viviana) Gage , Megan (Scott) Albrecht , Darren (Marty) Gage , Brandon (Katie) Gage , Matthew (Cori) Gage ; and Samuel (Randi) Gage ; 35 grandchildren ; 11 great-grandchildren ; sister, Coleen (Bob) Dalton, brothers, David (Janet) Gage and Ron (Kathy) Gage, and brother-in-law Tony Camberlango.
