Norman E Nef

Norman E Nef, 84, of Burton, died Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at Madison Memorial Hospital of heart failure.

He was born on January 15, 1925 in Burton, Idaho, the 4th of 8 children of Emil and Lenna Johnson Nef. He attended Burton elementary school and Madison High School, graduating in 1943. He attended Ricks College until he was called to serve in the Navy, where he served as a Radioman Third Class.

He marred Phyllis Allgood on January 4, 1946, in the Idaho Falls LDS temple. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in a variety of callings including bishop, high councilor, and patriarch of the Ricks College second stake for eighteen years. He served on the Board of Directors at Madison Memorial Hospital, and also on the Board of Directors of Madison Co-op. He worked for several area farmers before acquiring his own farm west of Idaho Falls. He was still actively pursuing his farming at the time of his passing.

Norman had a love of flying and often would take his children and grand children for flights. He was a partner in the Rexburg Flying Service for many years.

He is survived his wife, Phyllis of Burton, children, David (Arlene) Nef of Idaho Falls, Brook (Deanna) Nef of Idaho Falls, Julie (Wade) Saurey of Rexburg, and Lori Ann (Brad) Hill of St. Anthony; siblings Bernice Curtis of California, Relda (LeRoy) McGarry of Rexburg, Belva (Lloyd) Garner of Utah, Arnold (Leta) Nef of Utah, as well as 21 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, two brothers, Darrell and Weldon, and his sister, Dorthy.

Funeral services will be Monday, April 20th, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at the Burton LDS 1st Ward Chapel, Bishop Robert Hodgen officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at Flamm Funeral Home and again from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Burton Cemetery.
