Nyal was raised in the Drummond area until the age of three, when his family moved to the Salem area in 1945. He attended schools in the Wilford and Sugar-Salem communities.
On June 21, 1960, Nyal joined th United States Marine Corps and faithfully served his country until October 21, 1964. In 1965, he and his brother, Gene, purchased a dry farm east of Rexburg, where they farmed together for many years. Later, he continued farming with his nephew, Matt Peterson.
In November 1973, Nyal met Yvonne Smith of Sugar City on a blind date. Their relationship blossomed, and they were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on October 18, 1974. On Christmas Day 1979, they welcomed their daughter, Deanna Lyn, into their family.
Nyal was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully as a Sunday School Secretary, Ward Clerk, High Priests Group Secretary, and home teacher.
Nyal passed away peacefully at home with his daughter by his side.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Wilford Cemetery at 11:00 am. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at Flamm Funeral Home from 5:30 pm till 7:00 pm.
