He grew up in North Ogden, Utah and graduated from Weber High School in 1981 and attended Weber State College. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Canada-Toronto Mission.

He moved his family to Idaho, where he had the pleasure of working with Curtis Electric for the past 16 years, specializing in automation and temperature control systems; he held journeyman electrician, HVAC, and electrical contractor licenses.

Paul loved taking his family on adventures in the great outdoors, on motorcycles, in kayaks, in sailboats, and on snow machines. He especially looked forward to snowboarding and skiing at Grand Targhee with his family.
