Paul Stallings Carver, 86, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2016 of natural causes after a short illness. He was born on September 14, 1929 in Ogden, Utah to James Henry (Harry) and Mamie Carver.
Paul's family lived in Ogden until he was six years old. His father worked for J.C. Penney and was transferred to Alamosa, Colorado where they lived until Paul completed the fifth grade. Paul enjoyed those early years with family and helping on his Grandfather Stallings' farm in Eden, Utah during the summers. He started sixth grade in Monte Vista, Colorado after another Penney transfer.
Paul enjoyed music and played the trumpet for the school band and orchestra. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time at the family cabin on the Rio Grande River. He graduated from Monte Vista High in 1947 and enrolled in Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah where he met and fell in love with Patricia Aiken. They married on June 5, 1950 and he followed in his father's footsteps to join the J.C. Penney Company.
His first position with Penney's was to the Winnemucca, Nevada store. While there Paul Stephen was born. In 1951, he was transferred to the Twin Falls, Idaho store as a Department Manager. Michael Evan was born there in 1954. He transferred again in 1956 to the Butte, Montana store as a Floor Manager and was later promoted to an Assistant Manager. His next transfer was to Rigby, Idaho in 1961 as the Store Manager. His last transfer was to the Rexburg store in 1968 where he managed the store for the next 21 years until his retirement in 1989. After the Teton dam broke and flooded the store in 1976, he relocated the store into a vacant roller rink and then supervised the construction and restocking of the new Penney store near the location of the flood-damaged store. He was active in his church and served the community as President of the PTA in Rigby, President of the Rotary Club in both Rigby and Rexburg and was the head of the Rexburg Downtown Merchants Association.
Paul and Pat built a cabin in Pinehaven, Idaho and enjoyed the wilderness. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He served as the Mayor at Pinehaven. He made many friends and loved visits from his family and grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
