Pete Schaat, 71 of St. Anthony, passed away on June 23,2026 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family. He passed from conjestive heart failure.
Pete was born on April 11, 1955 in Saint Anthony, Idaho to Frank and Dorothy Schaat. He joined 2 older sisters and later welcomed two younger sisters into the family. He was the only boy in his immediate family and became very close to his double cousins Mike, Brad, Mary, Les, and Brian.
He grew up in Moses Lake, Washington. He moved back to Saint Anthony in1971 and graduated from South Fremont High School in 1973. Pete had a passion for trucking and big trucks. He hauled logs for R&H and Wocelka Trucking, and worked for many farmers in the area including Gould Trucking, Pococks, A B Tibbitts and many others. He also worked for Doug Andrus Distributing. He worked in Northern California hauling debris from the Paradise Fires. He also hauled cars in his own car hauler. He also worked for Fremont County School District driving school bus (the zebra bus) on the North Chester route to Ashton. His hobbies included videography and video editing. He videoed many events including his sons many sports and music activities.
He met Betty Slotte in 1982. They were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on Aug. 13, 1982. They were blessed with two sons Ryan and Cade. Pete is survived by his wife, Betty Slotte Schaat and sons Ryan of Salmon and Cade of Virginia. He is also survived by 2 sisters, Jennifer Merritt of Moses Lake Washington, Elaine (Scott) Hughes of West Haven Utah and brother-in-law Bob Fancher of Moses Lake Washington and sisters-in-law, Lou Vrabec of Driggs Idaho and Vicki Slotte of South Jordan Utah. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends whom he loved immensely. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Frances Fancher and Lucinda West and brothers-in-law Bill West and Bill Vrabec.Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at the LDS Stake Center in Saint Anthony at 11:00 am. A viewing will be held Tuesday at Bert Flamm Mortuary from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m.and again on Wednesday at the Stake Center from 10:00-10:45 a.m. Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery.
