Ralph William Kauer, 92, of Rexburg, passed away 30 September 2010, in Idaho Falls, with his loving wife of 68 years and his family at his side.

Ralph was born 12 January 1918 in Burton, Idaho to Ernest Ferdinand (Fred) Kauer and Rosalie Karoline (Rosa) Beck Kauer. He was the fifth of eleven children.

He attended Burton Elementary School, Madison High School, Ricks College, Idaho State University and received his Bachelor's Degree from Brigham Young University.

Ralph was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission in Germany and the Western States.

Ralph married Bernice Clifford on August 17, 1942 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They made their home in Burton where they raised four children.

During World War II he served in the military for four years where he earned the rank of Captain. Upon arriving home from the military he taught school in Madison School District #321 for twelve years and in Bonneville School District #93 for fifteen years. He was always active in community affairs. For forty five years he served as Secretary and Treasurer for the Texas Slough Irrigating Canal Company and for nineteen years as Secretary and Treasurer of the Bannock Feeder Canal Company.

Ralph served in various ward and stake callings. He and Bernice served as officiators in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple for many years. Together they researched their ancestors and completed their temple work. Then they complied many histories of their ancestors and published them into books for their family.

Ralph enjoyed farming and working with his cattle. Some of his special interests included wood working, camping, hunting, fishing, and gardening. After his retirement, Ralph and Bernice enjoyed traveling with Bernice's sister and brothers and their spouses. They visited many interesting and exciting places including Alaska and Hawaii.

Ralph's greatest joy came from spending time with his wife and their family. He will be greatly missed but fond memories of his love will forever keep him with us.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice, his children: Rosa (Richard, deceased) Powell of Rigby, Ruby (Roger) Englis of Ammon, Thelma (Dale) Taylor of Idaho Falls and Lynn (Tanya) Kauer of Burton, as well as 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 sisters-in-law, Erma Kauer of Rexburg and Berneice Clifford of Fremont California.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and five sisters.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 4, at the Burton LDS Chapel, 3958 W 2000 S, with Bishop Kevin Stanger officiating.
