Obituary

Raymond Henry Voss Jr, 85, of St. Anthony, passed away January 5th, 2021 at his home surrounded by family.
Ray was born July 7th, 1935 in Lehi, Utah, the son of Wanda (Hadfield) Voss and Raymond Henry Voss Sr.. His family later moved to Newdale, and then to Teton, Idaho where he grew up. He made lifelong friendships with Arden Stewart, Brent Thomson, and Darrel Parker, still to this day their friendship holds strong. Ray was a good basketball player in High School.
He joined the United States Army where he served as a Military Policeman in the secret mission Operation Redwing where they detonated the first air drop hydrogen bomb and several nuclear bombs in the Marshall Islands in 1956. After returning from his regular Army service, he then served for the Army National Guard locally for 11 additional years.
Ray met his sweetheart, Sharon Wiser Voss and married her February 6, 1959. They later solemnized their marriage in the Idaho Falls Temple on April 28, 1965. They made their home in St. Anthony, Idaho.
Ray worked for Amerigas for over 46 years, never missing a day of work and was honored for the longest standing employee in the Midwest Division. Amerigas honored him in their National News Program as Mr. Nice Guy. He enjoyed helping the customers.
Ray was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving in the Bishopric, Elders Quorum President, library, ward missionary, employment specialist and served with his wife in the Rexburg Temple. He was the President of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and helped develop the J.C.Park, and was voted to the position of the J. C. United States Senator for life. While in the J. C.'s, he helped put on the fireworks for the 24th of July. He and Kenny Worrell traveled and helped set up different chapters of the J.C.'s in the State of Idaho. He also served for 16 years for the City of St. Anthony Planning and Zoning, and worked for Economy Chevrolet for 5 years after leaving the Army. He worked for Ross Parkinson Farms driving truck in his younger years, and coached youth baseball. In the early years of the Annual Fisherman's Breakfast he cooked and served the public, and throughout the years he set up the propane for the grills. He worked part-time in the evening when needed for Steve Nueber at Nueber's gas station on Bridgestreet in St. Anthony. He was a manly man and had a love for cars, guns, coins, hats, and loved fixing up his 1971 Chevy Pickup.
His wife, Sharon passed away on July 12, 2011. He had a very special friend, Carol Otteson, who lived two doors down from him. They made the very best of friends. Carol held a very special place in his heart and is very dear to our entire family. Carol was like an adopted grandma to the grandchildren, and Ray was like an adopted grandpa to Carol's family since her husband had also passed away.
His greatest accomplishment in life was his family.
He is survived by his brother, Richard (Carol) Voss of Teton, ID; brother-in-law, Ross Parkinson Jr. of Rexburg, ID; sister-in-law Linda Voss of Teton, ID; sister-in-law, Deanna Osborne, of St. Anthony, Idaho;  his children, Raymond Henry Voss III of St. Anthony, Idaho, Cathy Davis, of Parker, Idaho, and Brenda (John) Chaffin of Idaho Falls, Idaho.
