Obituary

In the early hours of February 5, 2015, a heart of gold gave out, and Ray Willis Walker, Jr. joined the ranks of the Angels. Left in gratitude for his life and example are his wife of 63 loving years, Sylvia Therese Eberth Walker, his children, Bruce Walker (Susan Walker), Kent Walker (DeRue Walker), Glenn Walker (Jody Walker), Douglas Walker (Kristin Walker), and Charlotte Walker Modersitzki (Scott Modersitzki), his 27 grandchildren, and his 31 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Sharon Orme, Joan Johnson, and Darlene Davidson.

Ray Walker was born December 27, 1930 to Ray Willis Walker and Mabel Ovard in Rexburg, Idaho. He spent his life in the pursuit of good. Raised in the Mormon church, he adopted the tenets of his religion and implemented them first in service as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Great Lakes mission of the church, then in his home, family, and community. His legacy of missionary service is being honored by 3 grandchildren currently in the mission field.

In his early life, Ray farmed with his father, Willis. It was on the farm that he gained an incredible work ethic, and carried that same work ethic into adulthood, when he entered the world of business by starting Targhee Sports Center. He continued to contribute at Targhee Sports until one week before his passing.

Ray and his partner and horse Alex were some of the last peacekeeping Cowboys as he served as a deputy for Madison county. He was a deputy up until his death. He also treasured his time driving bus for Madison school district and loved the many young people that he was introduced to during that time in his life.

He has moved into the spirit world to be with his parents, Willis Walker and Mabel Ovard, his siblings, Lois Walker, Verla Jean Walker, and Keith Walker.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 9, at the Millhollow LDS Chapel, 315 Gary Drive in Rexburg, with Bishop Duane Siddoway officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and Monday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery.
