Obituary

Raymond Ricks Kington, 90, of Rexburg passed away April 22, 2013 at Madison Memorial Hospital in Rexburg.

He was born July 1, 1922, to Thomas Kington and Betsy Sophia Ricks Kington in Thornton, Idaho, the eight of ten children.
He graduated from Union Lyman school and at age fourteen spent the summer in Montana on a ranch, with his two brothers, punching cattle going from one camp to another. He also helped his uncle Lester on a dry farm above Ririe.
The family moved to Rexburg when he was seventeen years old. He spent six months in a CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) Camp at McCall, Idaho and six months at a CCC Camp in Lucine, Utah.
He then worked on a ranch in Montana doing general ranch work and feeding cattle in the winter. He went on two seventy mile cattle drives herding 1,000 cattle.

He met Rhea Nielsen at a dance and they were married October 31, 1942. To this union a daughter, Gloria Jean was born. They later divorced.

During World War II he was drafted into the army. He spent two years overseas driving a supply truck.
After the war he work for Nelson Ricks Creamery making butter and cheese and he hauled milk in the Hibbard/Plano area. He also worked for the Sugar City school district, Madison county road crew driving a road grader and he was the overseer of the Rexburg and Sugar City cemeteries with his brother Eurchel.

He married June Matthews Parr on May 27, 1967. They lived on a small farm outside of Sugar City and they loved to travel. They bought a travel trailer and a boat and used them often. June passed away in 2007.

He spent the night sitting in a big tree outside the front of his house when the Teton Dam broke. He felt that this was one of the top experiences of his life.

He is an Elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

He developed health problems in 2009 and moved in with his daughter. Then he moved into Homestead Assistant Living Center in Rexburg.

Raymond is survived by his daughter and son in law, Gloria and Larry Widdison. Grandchildren, Lori Ann (Ryan) Walker, Shanna Lynn (Rick) Hill, and Tom Widdison. Great-grandchildren, Devyn, (Brandi) Walker, Cody, Skyler, and Lexie Walker, Richard, Austin, and Anthony Hill.

Raymond was preceded in death by his wife June, parents, and siblings, Thomas, Clifford, Levear, Lewis, Martha Eliza, Eurchel, Rea, Norman, and Chelse.

The family would like to express appreciation to Homestead Assisted Living Center, to Dannette who watched over him so closely and Dr. Prince and the nurses and staff at Madison Memorial Hospital.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday April 27, 2013 at the Flamm Funeral Home, 61 North First Street, Rexburg, Idaho. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 10:45 at the funeral home. Interment will be the Rexburg Cemetery.
