Walter Reid Wilding, life time resident of Sugar City, graduated from this mortal life on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at his home.
He began this journey on January 13, 1928, in a log house in Moody, Idaho as the 6th of 11 children to Earl and Mahalia Wilding.
He attended school at Sugar-Salem. After high school, he served a mission to the Eastern States Mission and then spent 4 years with the Navy. After serving our nation he returned to Ricks College, met and fell in love with Mary Lou Bateman. They were sealed on August 29, 1956 in the Idaho Falls Temple. After completing his education, they settled and made their home in Sugar City.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held many callings including that of Bishop, High Councilor, Seventy, Missionary to Slovenia with his sweetheart, Mary Lou, and his favorite was any scout calling and temple assignment that he received. He loved his occupation of being a math teacher with the students at the State Youth Service Center in St. Anthony.
His hobbies included woodworking, rock polishing, yard work, Jackson Lake fishing, a few chickens and lambs, picking huckleberries, his favorite hobby was teaching scout leaders about the bent nail and knots.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou and his children, Layne (Jill) Wilding, Shirley (Eldon) Clawson, Joseph (Shaleen) Wilding, Susan (Rick) Hendy, James (Arla) Wilding, Diane (David) Stailey, David (Rachael) Wilding, Jean (Steve) Richardson; 44 grandchildren and 17 great-grand-children; three sisters, Dorothy Fenton, Zola Bull, Leola Erikson and one brother, Wayne Wilding.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, four sisters, and two grandsons.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at the Sugar City LDS Stake center. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and Wednesday from 10 to 10:45 at the stake center prior to services.
Interment will be in the Sugar City Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Madison County Veterans and the Idaho Honor Guard.
