Rial Leon Palmer, of St. Anthony, passed away on August 22 at Ashton Living Center.
He was born in Heman, Idaho on June 24, 1933, to Robert and Nana Palmer. He was the fourth of nine children. He grew up in the Egin Bench area. He attended school at the old Heman Elementary School through 8th grade and then worked on the family farm.
Rial married Joan Renee Mason on April 15, 1952 in the Idaho Falls Temple. They had seven children, Drex, Rocky, Larin, Reynold, Denton, Ryalene, and Ontaya. They lived in St. Anthony, Idaho, Moses Lake, Washington, and Tule Lake, California before eventually settling in the Egin Bench area on the family farm where he had grown up.
Rial learned to work hard at a young age, He worked at various starch plants in Idaho, Washington, and California in his younger years. He spent most of his life farming, raising cattle and driving truck. For several years he bought outdated farm equipment, repaired it, fixed it up, and sold it to the Hutterite colonies in Canada. He enjoyed fishing, working in his yard, and working on the farm.
Rial was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in several callings, as well as serving a stake mission with his wife, Joan. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Clayton, and Reynold, and his son, Denton. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Joan Renee Palmer; his children Drex (Teresa) of Moses Lake Washington, Rocky (Trixie) of Teton, Larin (Candy) of Egin, Reynold (LeAnn) of Clinton, Utah, Ryalene (Douglas) Barker, of Rigby, and Ontaya Shupe, of St. Anthony, his brothers, Martell Palmer and Laird (Eva) Palmer, and sisters, Bardella (Bill) Robison, Larena (Lowell)Young, Carla (Barry) Redford, and Nalene (Dave) Burch, as well as 30 grandchildren and 89 great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff at Ashton Living Center who helped care for Rial for the past five years.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 26 at the Parker 2nd ward chapel. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg, and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at the Parker chapel. Interment will be in the Parker Cemetery under the direction of Flamm Funeral Home.
