Richard Wallace Bevan,95, passed away from natural causes at his home on Thursday, September 10th, 2020 with his loving family around him. He got to go home to his loving Heavenly Father. He was born August 30, 1925 to Anna Bertha Sterzer Bevan and Joseph Elkington Bevan in Tooele, Utah. He was the 4th of 6 children in his family. He grew up in Tooele, Utah loving to hunt, trap, fish, and just be outdoors.
He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to the northern California mission but served partly in Oregon due to allergies. He wanted to serve in the military, but was unable, due to having scarlet fever as a child, causing his eardrum to become perforated.
He met his sweetheart, Mable Mackley, at a dance in Driggs. They were married on October 14, 1952, in the Idaho Falls, Idaho temple, and have been inseparable ever since. They lived together for almost 68 years and had three of their four daughters in Driggs, then moved to Rexburg to get special education for the oldest. They had one more daughter in Rexburg. They lived in town for a few years, then moved south of town, near his business for many years.
He had many different jobs but mostly worked with his sawmill business, Bevan Wood Products, on the South Highway in Rexburg, which he had until he retired. Then they built a house in Thornton and resided there until his death. He was a very charitable and forgiving person and gave service throughout his life.
He served in the temple for many years doing sessions while his wife worked in the temple office. , They served two missions: one at the Idaho Falls Temple Visitors Center and one at Ricks College doing genealogy research. He had many callings in the Church , was a great example of faith to his children, and taught them the value of work.
He is survived by his sisters, Emma Lou Lister and JoAnn Harvey. His wife, Mable Mackley Bevan, his children Barbara Bevan, Janet Jennings (Mark), Joyce Jensen (Shawn), and MaryLee Hornberger (Brian).
Grandchildren are: Dallas and Brady Jennings, Zachary Jensen and Jaleesa Snow, Jenna Thompson, Shannon and Shane Hornberger.
Great grandchildren: Avaya Raene Gates, Nathan and Eli Snow.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 14, 2020 at Flamm Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home prior to services. Interment will be in the Burton Cemetery.
