Richard Warren Hancey passed away on April 29, 2026, in Spanish Fork, Utah, following a long illness. He was surrounded by family and friends during his final months.
Richard was born on September 5, 1974, in Bellevue, Washington, to Douglas Adamson Hancey and Dorothy Stratton Hancey. He grew up in Rexburg, Idaho, where he graduated from Madison High School. Rich loved basketball, hiking, wakeboarding, skiing and mountain biking—interests that reflected his adventurous spirit and love of the outdoors.
Richard had a big personality and a keen sense of humor. He was the life of the party and had a special ability to make people feel seen and valued. Even in the final months of his chronic illness, Rich returned laughter and love to all who cared for him.
Richard lived for many years in Gilbert, Arizona, where his greatest joy was spending time with his two sons, Andrew and Ashton. They were the center of his life.
He is survived by his father, Doug Hancey, and stepmother, Eileen Whitaker Hancey; his siblings, Christian Hancey, Michelle Hancey, Jill Barson, John Hancey, and Kelly Hancey Brueschke; and his beloved sons, Andrew and Ashton. Richard was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Stratton Hancey.
