Richard Edgar Phillips, 87, of Rexburg, passed away peacefully Friday, October 9, in Kaysville, Utah.
He was born October 11, 1927, in Weed, California to Thomas and Agness Phillips. Dick was the youngest of six children.
He joined the Navy on October 10, 1945. Dick served on the USS Rogers as an electronics technician second class.
During leave of Christmas 1946, he met Beulah Marie Kirkendall. They corresponded with each other until he was honorably discharged on October 8, 1948. They dated another year and a half and were married on February 11, 1950.
Upon graduating from Portland State, he started working for Tektronix in Portland. He was transferred to Massachusetts, where he got the opportunity to give lectures at MIT. After a short stint in Ogden, Utah, he ended up in Arvada, Colorado. While living in Arvada, he and Beulah joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. They were sealed as a family in the Salt Lake City Temple on June 19, 1964.
He retired in 1984. He did not like being idle so he had different projects throughout his retirement years.
After 61 years of marriage, Beulah passed away. Dick then married Florine Swartout on August 3, 2012. She passed away in May of 2013.
He had a love of music, scouting and visiting family and friends.
He is preceded in death by parents Thomas and Agness, wives Beulah Marie Phillips, and Fluorine Phillips, children Phyllis Phillips, Richard Phillips, and grandson Joshua Pena. He is survived by his sister Marge (Larry) Heasley, his children Patt (Bob) Brady, Randy (Maxine) Phillips, Craig (Ellen) Phillips, Cherie Dennis, daughter-in-law Linda Phillips, 29 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2015, at the Rexburg 1st Ward Chapel. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Rexburg Cemetery under the direction of Flamm Funeral Home.
