Obituary

John Richard Sharp, 91, of Rexburg, Idaho, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, of causes incident to age.

Richard was born on July 26, 1933, in Rexburg, Idaho, to Lennis Gill Sharp and Blanche Dora Johanson Sharp. His father, Lennis, passed away in 1934, and four years later, his mother married George Madsen. Richard graduated from Madison High School in 1951 and attended
Ricks College for two years, where he met Diana Craven. The couple married in the Idaho Falls Temple on August 23, 1956, and together they raised four children: Kelly, Kirk, Jennifer, and Stephanie.

A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Richard's callings included a pioneer mission to Central America, ordinance worker in the Rexburg Temple, counselor in three bishoprics, stake Sunday School president, and counselor in the stake young men's organization. He also served in four high priest groups and held numerous teaching positions, including gospel doctrine and scoutmaster.

Work experience included linotype operator and pressman at the Rexburg Journal. Richard drove truck for many employers, including Garrett Freightlines. He was a bus driver for Holiday Motor Coach and the Madison School District. He especially enjoyed working in the logging
industry as a heavy equipment operator.

Together with his wife Diana, Richard co-owned and operated Sharp's A&W, a bright spot in St. Anthony for 17 years. When the new freeway bypassed the restaurant, they began Sharp Weddings, providing decorations for nearly 3,000 weddings, high school and college dances,
and a variety of other events over the next 18 years.

He is survived by his devoted wife Diana, their children Kelly (Liz), Kirk (Michelle), and Stephanie Davis (Greg); 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ralph Madsen and his sisters Joann Johnson and Jerry Child.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his oldest daughter, Jennifer Sharp, and his sister Janice Meikle.
