Obituary

Robert Junior Fenton, 85, of Rigby, died Friday, February 17, 2012, at his home of natural causes. He was born September 10, 1926 in Chapin, Idaho to Parmer Robert and Katherine Christensen Fenton. He attended school in Driggs and was attending Teton High School when he enlisted in the Navy at age 18, before graduating. In 2001 he received his high school diploma at a special graduation for those that served in the military before graduating. During his life he lived in Chapin, Idaho Falls, Sugar City, Rexburg, St. Anthony and Lorenzo.

He served on the USS Vella Golf aircraft carrier as Ship Fitter 3rd Class.

He married Dorothy Wilding on November 15, 1951, in the Idaho Falls LDS temple.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served two missions for the church. One in Ontario Canada and then later with his wife in Tacloban Philippines. He served as branch president in the Philippines. He also served for over 50 years in Scouting, as ward missionary and as a temple worker.

He worked as a taxidermist, as a radiator repairman, and as an electrician for Ricks College. He enjoyed rock collecting, fishing, hunting, fly tying, and camping. He loved meeting new people and swapping fishing stories.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Rigby; children David (Carol) Fenton of Rexburg, Joan (Alan) Burbank of Providence, Utah, Bruce (Janet) Fenton of Cody, Wyoming, Michael Fenton of Rigby, Kent (Crystal) Fenton of Rigby, Jane (Bill) Zyph of Othello, Washington, Vernon (Tyrie) Fenton of Rigby; 32 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, a great-granddaughter, three sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 23, at the Rigby 4th Ward Chapel, 401 West 1st South, with Adam Wood officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and Thursday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Burial will be in the Sugar City Cemetery.
