Obituary

Roberta (Bobbie) Gantert Werner, 88, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 7, 2024.

Bobbie was born on August 8, 1935 in New York, NY, the daughter of Eleanor Compton (Gantert) Benson and Robert Gantert; she grew up in Pelham and subsequently New Rochelle, NY.

She met the love of her life, Richard (Dick) Paul Werner, while she attended college at the University of Connecticut, majoring in Physical Therapy. Upon graduating she and Dick were married on September 21, 1957.

They lived first in Granby, CT and then settled in Glastonbury, CT, raising 3 children, whom Bobbie loved dearly and who were, and continue to be, inspired and encouraged by her larger-than-life spirit and can-do attitude. Bobbie enjoyed working in physical therapy and as a preschool teacher. During these years she revelled in doing activities with her family, such as skiing, skating, swimming and spending time at their Dream Lodge on Shadow Lake, VT. Bobbie also loved to sing and she performed with the Simsbury Light Opera in numerous Gilbert and Sullivan works.

For the last 30 years, Bobbie and Dick split their time between Jackson, WY, and Tilloo Cay, Bahamas, where they had designed and built a home. She cherished the opportunity to spend time with family and friends in these special places. Bobbie had an adventurer's soul - loving to travel, snorkel and scuba, sail, ski, and hike with her cherished family dogs. She loved classical music, musicals and opera. But most of all, she loved her family.

She is survived by her spouse Dick, and by 3 children who miss her dearly: Laura Werner, Cynthia Cerdan, and Robert Werner, and their spouses; and by 5 grandchildren whom she adored: Jeff, Pete, Nick, Sam and Phoebe.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers who helped Bobbie and Dick in their home, as well as the caregivers and staff at Homestead Assisted Living and Hospice; we are deeply grateful for their sincere, amazing, conscientious and loving care of our parents.
